Overview

Established in June, 1992 with the efforts of Gandhidham Collegiate Board and Indian Institution of Sindhology, Adipur.

Only college affiliated to KSKV Kachchh University, Bhuj which has Department of Sindhi. Sindhi is taught at Minor and Multi-disciplinary level as per NEP 2020.

The department is headed by Dr. Vimmi Sadarangani, Associate Professor who is a well known Sindhi Poet and Scholar.

22 students (1996-2011) have won Jiwat Chawla Gold Medal for securing highest marks in Sindhi at University level.

Major Events organized: Sindhi Teachers Training Workshop with National Council for Promotion of Sindhi Language – Min. of HRD (2004), Asia and Asian Cities Workshop with KATHA, Delhi (2005), Gujarat Sindhi Youth Festival (2006), All India Sindhi Women’s Conference with National Council for Promotion of Sindhi Language (2010), National Seminar on Sindhi-Hindi Translation with IGNOU, New Delhi (2017), Poetry Recitation Competitions with Central University of Gujarat, Gandhinagar (2020, 2022), State Workshop on Modern Indian Languages with NCPSL (2023), National Workshop on Rich heritage of Sindhi language and culture with Ranchi Sindhi Panchayat (2024), 100 Thousand Poets for Change (an International Poetry event since 2011).

Collaborations with Sahitya Akademi, National Council for Promotion of Sindhi Language (Min. of Education, GOI), Katha (Delhi), St. Xavier’s College (Ahmedabad), Sindhi Dept of Govt. College (Ajmer), Sindhi Dept. of M.S. University (Vadodara), Indra Gandhi National Open University (New Delhi), Central University of Gujarat (Gandhinagar) etc.

Departmental Publications: Transliteration: 1) “choond sindhi kahaniyuN” (BA Sem I, II); 2) “choond sindhi kahaniyuN” (BA Sem IV); 3) “Virhange kha poi je Sindhi shair ji choond” (BA Sem III & IV). Preparation: “Vanhivaarik Sindhi” book for BA Sem I to IV.

Exhibitions on Sindhi language, literature and Culture held at Adipur, Gandhidham and Bhuj during various festivals and Kutch Utsav of Tourism Dept, Guj. At Partition Museum, Amritsar in 2019.

Alumni as prominent young Sindhi writers and artists: Mukesh Tilokani, Roshan Gopalani, Tulsi Thawani, Bharti Sadarangani, Koma Raichandani, Komal Chandnani, Komal Dayalani, Anita Tejwani etc.

Few of distinguished guests in the Department: Mrs. Anjana Hazari (President, GCB), Prof. Gul Agha and Prof. Jennifer Cole (University of Illinois), Prof. Mamia Ken Saku (Japanese Sindhi Scholar), Julian Levesque (French Scholar), Gehna Mohinani (Researcher from Dubai), Shefali Vasdev (Journalist, author), Anila Sunder (Artist) etc.

Alumni Meet and Parents Meet are organized by the department.

Future Plans:  To start short-term courses on Sindhi language and literature, Sindhi Sufi Poetry, Partition literature in Sindhi etc.
